About Our Facility...
Regional Medical Center’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a
newly remodeled, state-of-the-art facility located in Madisonville,
Kentucky. Designed with the needs of infant patients and their families
in mind, this 5,000 square-foot unit has baby stations arranged in an “open pod design” featuring specialized airflow, lighting, and
acoustic systems. The pod design provides nurses with the ability to see
babies throughout the unit while working in the other pods. Whether it
is a critically ill or premature newborn, or those infants requiring
close observation, RMC’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is equipped to
provide care for a wide variety of neonates. This Level II, non-surgical
NICU offers varying levels of care, including: intensive, intermediate,
and continuing care.
Transporting Precious Cargo
The S.T.O.R.K. (Special Transport of Rural Kentucky) program offered by
Regional Medical Center operates a fast response ground transport to
ensure that premature or medically stressed neonates arrive at our
facility promptly. This process also allows our highly skilled team to
meet the infant’s critical needs while in route to Regional Medical
Center.
Families Receive Special Attention Too
Regional Medical Center’s NICU has been renovated with not only the
small patients in mind, but the entire family as well. The new “pod”
design was created with a family focus. This environment allows each
family to have a sense of privacy while visiting with their infant. The
unit also offers a private viewing area for families to keep an eye on
their infant through a window or with the assistance a camera positioned
over the baby’s pod area. There are also two family areas with
comfortable seating and exam room, as well as a lactation room for
breast-feeding mothers.

Our Families Say...
“Given the circumstances, we would not have had our baby boy anywhere
else. We could go to bed at night knowing that he was in good hands and
close to home. It was like family was taking care of him and that is a
huge assurance with a sick newborn.”
Jamie & Ashley, parents of Keaton born at 32 weeks, weighing 4
pounds, 6 ounces
“Heart-warming nurses and world-class doctors are at RMC. They knew
exactly what to do and when to do it.”
Brian & Melissa, parents of Jeffrey born at 23 weeks, weighing 1
pound, 2 ounces
“This has to be the best NICU anywhere in the world! It’s not just
because of the facility; it’s because of the people.”
