The Kentucky Program of Anesthesia was officially opened in 1992 with the first class of six students entering the program in August 1992. The Program operated at the certificate level during the initial classes. In the spring 1994, Murray State University and Trover Health System developed a collaborative graduate program in nurse anesthesia. The program is dedicated to graduating nurse anesthetists of the highest professional competence residing in a rural area who are committed to returning to rural areas to practice. The name of the program was changed to Trover Health System/Murray State University Program of Anesthesia.

Regional Medical Center of Hopkins County is located in southwest Kentucky in the city of Madisonville. Serving the tri-state area, it is heralded as a regional referral center. Regional Medical Center is a non-profit, Joint Commission Accredited, 410 bed acute care facility providing a full range of medical services including open heart, orthopedics, thoracic and vascular surgery, comprehensive cancer services, neo-natal intensive care, 24 hour emergency services and more. Established in 1979, the Medical Center has long been recognized and respected by the communities that it serves for its quality of care. Through this dedication to quality and state-of-art technology, the Medical Center has continued to provide the services necessary to meet the present and emerging needs of its patients.

St. Claire Regional Medical Center, the largest rural hospital in Northeastern Kentucky, is a 159-bed regional referral center located in Morehead, Kentucky. Sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame in Covington, Kentucky, the Medical Center serves as a not-for-profit hospital and is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The medical staff is comprised of nearly 100 physicians representing 31 medical and surgical specialties and serves a population of over 165,000 people in its eleven county service region. Surgical services available include general, vascular, gynecology, obstetrical, orthopedic, thoracic, otorhinolaryngology, urology, ophthalmology, and oral-maxillary surgery.
