Trover Health System/Murray State University Program of Anesthesia
The THS/MSU Program of Anesthesia offers a graduate degree in nurse anesthesia as a collaborative effort between Trover Health System and Murray State University. The program is dedicated to graduating nurse anesthetists of the highest professional competence residing in a rural area who are committed to returning to rural areas to practice. The program was initiated in 1992. Regional Medical Center, Madisonville, KY and St. Claire Regional Medical Center, Morehead, KY serve as primary clinical sites. Current clinical affiliate rotation experiences are contducted at Kosair Children's Hospital and University Medical Center in Louisville, KY; Ohio County Hospital in Hartford, KY; Western Baptist Hospital and Lourdes Hospital in Paducah, KY; Jackson County Schneck Memorial Hospital in Seymour, IN; and Pineville Community Hospital in Pineville, KY. The purpose of the Trover Health System/Murray State University Program of Anesthesia is to educate carefully selected registered nurses that have become motivated to enter a specialized area of nursing.
The Program provides didactic and clinical education to eligible RN/BSN students so that they will be eligible to take the Certification Examination given by the Council on Certification of Nurse Anesthetists and to assume entry level positions in a wide variety of clinical setting, but especially in the rural setting in the state of Kentucky, as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) upon graduation. The Murray State University MSN and BSN programs are accredited by the Council on Collegiate Nursing Education. The Trover Health System/Murray State University Program of Anesthesia has received full accreditation status from the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, a specialized accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
