Helping children and their families manage asthma
Asthma is on the rise, despite all the diagnostic and treatment information available. Since 1982 there has been a 50% increase in asthma cases, and an 8% increase per year is expected in the future.
Asthma symptoms can be affected by many factors, including environment, infections, allergies and more.
Nearly 15 million people in the US--ten percent of the population--have asthma. Five million of these are children. Asthma is responsible for 450,000 hospitalizations and 5,000 deaths each year. Costs associated with asthma are estimated at over $6 billion.
